How to play Memory according to different difficulties

Memory cards - game instructions

The great thing about a memory game is that you can play it with the whole family. It is possible to start very early at around 1.5-2 years old, depending on the child's developmental stage, with very few cards and to increase the difficulty of the game over time. The advantage is that children don't immediately lose interest in the great game, otherwise they will find it difficult to remember too many cards at the same time.

Game ideas for 1.5 - 2.5 years:

To make the game interesting and easier to understand for small children, you can start with just 2 pair motifs. It's best to leave the cards face up and ask for the desired motif. For example, pick up a memory card with a snake motif and ask: "Where is the other snake?" hmmm.. 🤔 And when the child has found the second motif, look for the next pair of motifs immediately afterwards. Repeat the game with additional motifs.

Memory playing cards revealed

Once the child has understood the game and shows interest, you can increase the difficulty of the game by covering the cards with the motifs and letting the child look for the motif pairs. It's best to let the child start here. It is allowed to reveal two cards at the same time. If two different motifs have been revealed, cover the cards again, leave the position unchanged and ask the child again where they think the motif pair is.

You can also play yourself and show how to find the pairs. You can always ask the child after you have revealed a card what he thinks and where the appropriate card might be.

Increase difficulty level

Once the child has understood the principle, you can increase the level of difficulty again and add another pair of motifs and continue the game as described above.

Memo cards

Memory game for ages 3 and up - play with the whole family

At around 3 years old, many children can play the game with all 12 motifs.
Mix all cards well and place them on any surface with the motifs face down. The first player is allowed to reveal two cards at the same time. The aim is to find the same motif pairs. If the same pairs are revealed in the game, the player may put the motif pair aside. The player who has found two identical motifs can continue playing until he reveals two different motifs again. If two different motifs have been revealed, you must cover the cards again and leave the position unchanged. A player change then takes place. The game continues until all motif pairs have been found. The player with the most cards emerges as the winner.
